Electrostatic control solutions for industrial applications

Better flocking

The issue:

Flocking is a widely employed technique in various industries including textile, automotive, and electronics, for producing distinctive surface finishes, textures, or patterns. The process entails applying short monofilament fibers, known as flocks, onto a base fabric to achieve a textured or patterned surface with a velvety appearance. However, flock clogging and uneven fiber distribution on the fabric often lead to significant rejection rates.

The remedy:

In flocking, electrostatic charging is used for achieving a uniform and controlled finish/flock. The adhesive-coated fabric is either charged positively, or an earthed plate is positioned below it. The flock traverses a mesh where a negative electromagnetic field is applied. The fabric thus attracts the negatively charged flock, ensuring even distribution and adherence to the adhesive-coated surface. This electrostatic intervention creates consistent, textured surfaces in applications ranging from textiles and plastics to paper and metals.
